It was a bit sad to see that the photography magazine Practical Photography has published its last issue this month. It seems that the publisher, H Bauer Publishing, has pulled the plug on a number of specialist magazines and this is one of them. My grandmother used to read these back in the 1960’s and kept all the back issues. When I got interested in photography she used to give them to me in small bundles and I spent many, many hours poring over them – even more so with the 1970’s editions which used to feature a lot of scantily-clad cover models! Like all magazines they start to repeat themselves because there’s only so much you can write about and they have to tread a fine line between attracting new photographers with basic information whilst at the same time having content for the more experienced ones. RIP Practical Photography.
